The Tuff Torq Manufacturing Internship Experience

Tuff Torq Corporation is the world’s leading manufacturer of off-highway powertrain solutions

Tuff Torq transmissions can be found globally in lawn tractor and zero-turn products produced by companies such as John Deere, Husqvarna, MTD, Briggs and Stratton, and more. Tuff Torq proudly accepts students from leading universities, both domestic and abroad, to offer a manufacturing internship program that “brings to life” the teachings, concepts, and theories found in the classroom. Our program offers a fully-immersive experience that embeds our interns into a department where they work alongside our staff on projects that add value to the company and in turn, enhance each student’s education.

My name is Ben Kwiatkowski. I am a Quality Engineering intern and study mechanical engineering with a concentration in motorsports engineering at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte.

I am from Asheville, NC and in my free time I like to fish, hunt, and work on vehicles. Being a “hands on” person, I like to learn new things and enjoy solving problems and math. In combination with working on things throughout high school and my strong math background, I decided that mechanical engineering would be a good career path for me.

Tuff Torq is a unique company with personal, caring people. In my internship I worked on a quality management system data tool, and a departmental relocation effort.  My experience this summer taught me a lot about quality and manufacturing which I am sure will help me greatly in my pursuit to be an engineer

Hello! My name is Haley Branch. I am the Purchasing Intern at Tuff Torq Corporation and a senior at the University of Tennessee, seeking my Bachelors in Supply Chain Management with a Marketing Concentration.

This summer has been an unforgettable experience as I have learned so much. My favorite part has been travelling and meeting suppliers and touring their plants. I have found a friend in each of my co-workers and suppliers.

In my free time, I really enjoy watching sports—football is my favorite by far (Go Vols & Chiefs!). I am also a leader with UT’s Baptist Collegiate Ministry, where I spend a lot of time serving the campus alongside some truly amazing people.

Everyone at Tuff Torq has made me feel at home and I’ve never been intimidated to ask for anything when I needed help. I will carry this experience with me in my future academic courses as well as my career!

Hey! My name is Collin Bible. I am a senior at the University of Tennessee seeking a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Reliability and Maintainability. Engineering has always been laid out in front of me since I was young and have loved math and taking things apart. I am also Vice President and leader in a campus ministry called Chi Alpha, so I spend a lot of my time with them serving and enjoying life together!

Outside of school, I love spending time with my family and friends! I am a huge ENOer. So, going anywhere in nature and finding a place to set up your ENO and read a good book, nap, or enjoy nature is a perfect day to me!

This internship has broadened my outlook on the engineering field by being able to see the things we learned in the classroom put to use. The atmosphere at Tuff Torq has been great! I have loved every moment of it and will carry everything I learned with me to wherever I head next.

Hi, my name is Donald Partin. I attend The University of Tennessee for Mechanical Engineering entering my junior year.

This was my second summer internship at Tuff Torq after meeting Lyons Hamblen and Jeff Caudill at the Engineering Expo hosted by UT two years ago. This year I had the privilege of working with the quality department where I helped improve quality processes and evaluations.

Outside of school and work, I enjoy exercising, flying RC planes, and riding motorcycles. In my time at Tuff Torq, I have learned that I am on the right career path and I am excited to use these skills for future endeavors.
